The Role
The Site Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery of a commercial construction project on site. They will lead day‑to‑day site operations, manage subcontractors and direct labour, and ensure works are delivered to programme, budget and specification while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
You will be responsible for:
- Site Leadership – Lead and coordinate site teams, subcontractors and suppliers, chairing regular progress meetings and ensuring works are effectively sequenced.
- Health, Safety & Environment - Act as on-site HS&E lead, enforcing RAMS, CDM and company procedures, conducting inspections, inductions and toolbox talks, and managing incident reporting.
- Programme, Quality & Cost – Monitor progress against programme, maintain quality control through inspections and snagging, and support cost control by tracking variations and minimising rework.
- Subcontractor Management – Manage subcontractors on site, oversee resources, approve completed works and coordinate materials, plant and deliveries.
- Client & Stakeholder Liaison – Serve as the primary on-site contact for the client, employer's agent and project team, providing clear progress updates and attending design and coordination meetings.
- Documentation & Compliance – Maintain site diaries, inspection records and permits, prepare progress reports, and support handover including O&M manuals and as-built information.
You'll bring the following to the role:
- Qualifications & Experience – Proven Site Manager (or Senior Site Supervisor) experience on commercial projects, holding SMSTS (or SSSTS working towards SMSTS) and a CSCS Supervisor/Manager card. First Aid at Work and Fire Marshal certified, or willing to obtain.
- Technical Knowledge – Strong understanding of construction methods, building regulations and health & safety legislation, with confidence reading and interpreting drawings, specifications and programmes.
- Leadership & Communication – A capable people manager who drives safe, high-quality performance, communicates clearly at all levels — from operatives to client — and liaises effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Organisation & Problem-Solving – Highly organised with strong planning skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under time and cost pressure.
- IT & Reporting – Competent in site reporting, email and basic construction management software.
